CEBU CITY, Philippines - Donations and pledges continue to pour into Siquijor as the Siquijor Island Improvement Foundation Corp. (SIIFC) turned over on September 27 a newly renovated emergency room to Siquijor Provincial Hospital.

The renovation was among the group’s projects geared towards the development of Siquijor. The renovation started on August 28 with fund from charitable donors, members and partners of SIIFC. In a simple ceremony, foundation founder John Creasy challenged all the people in Siquijor to cooperate and contribute for the hospital’s improvement.

“If everybody (more or less 90,000) on this island contributes P1 per week, that would be P90,000 a week, enough to fund the health, education and other needs of the constituents,” Creasy said. Board Member Arturo Pacatang, chairman on the Committee on Health, lauded the SIIFC for its remarkable deed.

He said the government is not far from achieving its thrust of upgrading health services to its constituents if donations from benevolent donors keep coming in. Pacatang said Governor Shane Fua has been very sincere in his effort to deliver quality service

He cited the governor’s recent approval of the granting of hazard pay to medical workers. Pacatang thanked SIIFC officers and members for strongly pushing for the improvement of the hospitals in line with the government’s thrust.

SIIFC was formed by Filipinos and foreigners with the aim of developing the whole province of Siquijor. It was approved by and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on March 20, 2007.
